No perfect people are allowed here.
That statement might seem a bit odd to put on a fitness site, but let me assure you of one thing: no one is perfect and this site is for those who find themselves in a health situation that is less than perfect.
This is the site for those who want to #OutMOHAWKtheOldYou Did I lose you on that one? Let me explain. Long story short, my boys and I get mohawks each May…which became April…which became March. Do I look good in a mohawk? No. I look ridiculous. I’m a 38 year old high school English teacher. I know I’m too old for this haircut…but not in the eyes of my kids. When we feel better about our health, we are willing to take risks with others to show them that we love them and are on the same page as they are. That’s what this is about. I love my kids and if mohawk May (or April or March) brings us together at the risk of looking goofy to others, I’ll choose the love of my kids every single time.
This is the site for those who want to #OutDREAMtheOldYou. Think of it like this – what dreams are you currently not achieving due to weight or health issues?
This is the site for those who want to #OutHEROtheOldYou. Whether we realize it or not, as parents, we are heroes to our kids. As a dad, I want to really be the dad that my kids are proud to have. When I go to their school or their practices, I want them to say with pride that I’m their dad.
This is the site for those who want to #OutLOVEtheOldYou If we are honest, our health can affect our self-esteem and our self-esteem can affect how we treat others. If we are stronger in our health and self-concept, we can allow ourselves to love ourselves and really love others on a greater level.
This is the site for those who want to #OutSWEATtheOldYou Some people will be going from doing nothing to doing something, some will be going from doing something to being consistent and some will go from being consistent to pushing your limits. Whatever level you start at, make sure that’s not the level that you stay on.
This is the site for those who want to #OutSHINEtheOldYou. With a healthier you, comes a happier and more confident you. When you have confidence, you shine to those around you.
This is the site for those who want to #OutWORKtheOldYou. Whether it’s meal prep, your work at home or your workout, a change in your health and fitness can truly be the push you need to work just a bit harder than you used to. Again, small steps over time make for a big change.
This site is a partnership that is here to let you know we all have struggles, we all can do better and we are all in this together. We need to leave a health legacy so that we can be around to be active participants in the lives of our children.
If you’ve been made fun of for your weight, please know that I’ve walked in your shoes. As a kid, I was often made fun of for my weight. I was the fat kid in class. I had low self-esteem and really hated school and PE class because of the constant teasing.
When I went off to college, I started boxing and got into the best shape of my life. I started to see that the past didn’t have to dictate my future.
After I got married, I put on some weight. After the birth of my first son, I put on some weight. I ended up tearing my ACL in front of a very large group of people at a charity event. The most embarrassing part wasn’t the large group of people.
The most embarrassing part was that I did this in front of my then-2 year old son. He didn’t understand why his daddy was hurt.
I was hurt because my weight had ballooned to 250 pounds.
After that, I had surgery and started P90X during my physical therapy (shout out to my physical therapists…including my wife). I ended up losing over 20 pounds and getting my knee back in great shape.
I don’t want to mislead you. I’ve had my ups and downs since then. That’s why I state that no perfect people are allowed. We all have our ups and downs.
What I’m asking is for you to allow me to be alongside you during downs and help to celebrate your success in the up moments of your life with New Legacy Fitness.
Together we are stronger.
